The study, by myvouchers.co.uk, showed that almost 70% (68%) of the 17-21 year-olds surveyed did not know that lying to their insurers made their car insurance invalid.Over half admitted to ‘fronting’ – where a driver names a parent as the main driver instead of themselves.Almost 40% did not own up to modifications on their car, while over 40% said they kept their car in a garage.Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “It’s a shame that people do this sort of thing to save money, because there are much better and more honest ways of getting money off.”He recommended other ways of bringing the cost of insurance down – by taking a Pass Plus test and driving a smaller car.Simon Douglas, Director of AA Insurance, recently said that pay-by-performance insurance could be the future for drivers who need to bring down their premiums, especially young motorists.
