Hopefully, the appointment of a broadband minister will help address these issues, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said.
In many cases, it found that small firms in rural areas are not receiving the service they need or the speeds advertised by their broadband providers.
John Walker, National Chairman of the FSB, commented: “Small firms are being misled by their service providers which are promising broadband speeds that they are simply not delivering.
“Broadband is not a luxury but an essential service.”
He added that addressing these issues is essential for the UK becoming a global competitor in the broadband market.
Ed Vaizey is the UK’s new coalition government’s minister with responsibility for telecoms and broadband, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport announced on May 20th.
