Android mobile phones to dominate market by 2015, IDC predicts Google’s Android phones will dominate the mobile phone market with a 44% hold by 2015, according to predictions.
The International Data Corporation (IDC) has forecast that Android mobile phones will represent just below 39% of the smartphone market by the end of 2011.It also signals an increase in the smartphone market as a whole, saying that mobile phone manufacturers will ship over 470 million smartphones this year, a figure it predicts will double to 982 million by 2015.”Mobile phone users around the world are turning in their ‘talk-and-text’ devices for smartphones as these devices allow users to perform daily tasks like shopping and banking from anywhere,” says Kevin Restivo, Senior Research Analyst with IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.Mr Restivo pointed out that the growth trend could be seen in particular in emerging markets where smartphones are still in their early days.”As a result, the growth in regions such as Asia/Pacific and Latin America, will be dramatic over the coming years,” he added.Smartphones allow users to perform increasing numbers of tasks with their handsets, as recently Tim Smith told the Guardian he used a mobile phone application called Glucose Buddy to help him monitor his blood sugar levels.
